What is Mindfulness?
Mindfulness is a very wide subject and you can go into it as deeply as you want. What it means is for mind and body to be in a state of present. To be where you are, doing what you’re doing, without distraction from the next task or what the future will hold.
It can be done with anything from simple mind exercises to deep meditation. Let’s take a look at what The Benefits of Being Mindful are.
The Stresses of Modern Life
So many times, throughout our lives, we focus on what’s next and worry about the outcome. This is perfectly natural, we have the ability to think ahead and make things happen that take time. This causes stresses we don’t even think about (maybe because we’re far too busy thinking ahead). Outcomes are rarely what we envision them to be. Also, in this fast-paced rat race, we want things to happen far quicker than they ever seem too. We’re bombarded with marketing and we have become a society of people who want more. Being completely in the present gives us some relief from this.
What are the advantages of living in the present?
Think, if you are only concerned about the task in hand, when you’re doing it, you will naturally get better results. Firstly, we’re giving the task our undivided attention and avoiding thinking about the next. Secondly, we’re reducing our stress levels, our rush to do things and our impatience. If you had to lay 100 miles of road it would be best to do it one yard at a time.
Thinking Ahead at the Right Time
This is not to say there isn’t room to think ahead. There are times to plan and dream and have ideas, but we could all afford to be a little less anxious about the outcome. There is rarely a plan that comes together perfectly and those of us who can adapt are the ones who succeed. Using the correct times to be in present and to think ahead is the key to reducing stress levels. And I’ll leave you with this:
